In the Spotlight: Cathie Allan
We're shining the Spotlight on Cathie Allan, proud mother of four and happy grandmother of three. With her husband and best friend, Brian, she lives on acreage outside of St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, where there is more than enough room for the grandchildren, two resident dogs and five grand-dogs to run and play.

More than 30 years ago, Cathie’s father opened a teacher supply store in Edmonton, Alberta, called Western Educational Activities. Soon after Cathie began working in this family-owned business, she introduced the art of rubber stamping and scrapbooking. It did not take long for the hobby to take off, and in short order, the stamping and scrapbooking side of the store grew to equal the size of the teacher supplies.

Cathie was combining stamping, cardmaking and scrapbooking long before others realized how beautifully they meshed. Her classes have always been popular, bringing beginners and intermediate level stampers to the store for weekly and monthly sessions. But she teaches well beyond the store's classroom and her reach extends outside Canada's borders, too. Since 1995, her projects and technique-driven articles have been published in a large variety of magazines including Scrap & Stamp Arts, where she is a member of the advisory board and a regular contributor. She has been a featured instructor on many stamping cruises and demonstrates for Clearsnap at numerous conventions. Clearsnap, the manufacturing company known worldwide for their inks and artist quality stamp toys, has featured Cathie's projects in their advertising campaigns as well.

In 2008, Cathie became a regular featured writer in the quarterly publication Canadian Scrapbooker. Each issue contains one of Cathie’s amazing creations along with easy-to-follow instructions. The popularity of the column was phenomenal, and it led to Cathie’s involvement in Canadian Scrapbookers Basics. In Volumes 2 and 3 of this 5-volume series, Cathie was brought on board as a contributing editor. The projects she developed for the two books were designed to instil confidence in the readers, allowing them to add stamping to their layouts. Projects range from an introductory level of stamping to those that are more challenging; however, all of the projects are geared for success and fun.
