This project featured artist/author Lisa Pavelka of www.heartinhandsstudio.com, Las Vegas, NV. The Scor-itTM Board helped in the creation of her Abstractions Metallic Greeting Card

  Supplies Used:

  • Scor-itTM Board
  • Lisa Pavelka FoilsTM (Rainbow)
  • Sakura Quickie GlueTM Pen
  • Fimo Soft Polymer Clay in Black
  • 3-4 dozen 20SS Swarovski® Hotfix flatback #2028 Crystals
  • Lisa Pavelka Poly BonderTM glue
  • Fiskars® Deckle Paper Edgers Scissors
  • Kemper 1/2” Heart Cutter
  • Beacon Zip Dry Paper glue
  • 2 Sheets of Cardstock: 8.5” x 11” (1 matte Black, 1 shiny White)
  • Acrylic clay roller
  • Scissors or paper trimmer
  • Small, smooth ceramic tile
  • Tweezers

Greeting Card:

Trim the black cardstock to 5.5” x 11” and the white cardstock to 4.75” x 4.75” with scissors or a paper trimmer. Score the cardstock in the middle (at the 5.5” inches) and fold in half as the base of the card and set aside.

Place the white card stock with the (glossy side face-up). Make several random score lines in the paper, moving the piece at different angles each time to create intersecting embossed lines.

When you are happy with the pattern, apply the glue pen to the raised lines. The glue comes out light blue, but turns clear when dry; usually a few seconds to a minute depending on the temperature and humidity in the room.

When the glue dries, it will still be tacky. Press a piece of the foil (colored side facing you) over the glue and burnish with your finger. Rip the Mylar backing off and continue until the lines are covered with foil. Once the lines are covered, repeatedly press the foil over the entire piece of white card stock. This will leave bits of foil in between the raised lines enhancing the effect. If there are lines that lack foil, you can reapply the glue and re-foil until you are satisfied with the results.

Trim the Card stock 1/8” inch along all four edges with the deckle edge scissors. Glue to the center of the black card base using the paper glue.

Use tweezers and Poly Bonder glue to attach the crystals over intersecting points of the foil lines. Just a very small dot of glue is all that’s needed; less is more!

Clay Hearts:

Condition one quarter block of the black clay by kneading between your fingers for 30 seconds. Working on a smooth ceramic tile, roll out the clay to 1/8” thick with the roller.

Apply foil by burnishing (color facing you) over the clay using your index finger. Burnish for 30 seconds or longer. It’s the heat that will make the foil adhere to the clay and not the pressure. Lift a corner of the foil and rip it off as quickly as possible. Tip: Use a small scrap of paper between your finger and the foil while burnishing. This will allow you to move your finger more quickly and generate more heat.

Cut out 4 hearts from the foiled clay using the punch. Remove excess clay and bake the hearts in a preheated 265ºF oven for 15 minutes (use an oven thermometer to check temperature accuracy first).

When the hearts are cool, glue them to the corners of the white card stock using the Poly Bonder. Glue the white paper into the interior of the card using the paper glue or use a white or metallic Gelly Roll® pen on the black paper to write your message.
