FAQs
The Scoring Tool:
I have trouble keeping the scoring tool on track it keeps slipping off when I start scoring.
Place the tip of the tool in the cutout notch in the centering ruler. Make sure you are holding the tool perpendicular to the board and not leaning to one side or the other.
Next, press down with medium pressure before you start the scoring motion then use even pressure throughout the score.
The scoring tool doesn’t glide smoothly over the paper it drags and seems rough.
We recommend using Perga Soft. Pull the groove end of the scoring tool through the Perga Soft wax. Also, try taking a very small amount of Vaseline® and rubbing it between your thumb and forefinger. Then rub onto the groove end of the tool making sure that you don’t leave any globs of Vaseline in the groove. To finish, wipe with tissue or clean cloth. We have also found that oil from your skin will work as well.
Why do you use a wood tool instead of plastic or metal?
We found that both aluminum and steel tools leave marks on the paper, after scoring, and plastic tools wear out too fast and also wick ink. Both the wood tool and paper contain cellulous fibers that makes them very compatible. Also, the wood tool won’t leave marks on your paper and we liked the color and hardness of the Purple Heart Wood!
I find the ball chain cumbersome, do you have an alternative?
Try this…unscrew the chain from the tool. Put a small Velcro Dot on both the tool and on the board in a place of your choice.
My tool has splintered on the top, what can be done?

The Stop Guide:
I own the Mini and when I try to set the stop guide at 4 1/4 inches, it won’t stay tight and usually falls off how can I remedy this?
We demo the Mini at trade shows and set the guide at 4 1⁄4 inches and have found the following solves the problem. Set the stop guide at the 4 1⁄4 inches mark. Push down, with medium pressure, on the half of the stop guide that is on the rubber surface with your thumb. While pushing down, tighten the guide with your other hand making sure that it is tight.
I keep misplacing my stop guide - is there any way to attach the stop guide to the board like the tool?
Yes…click on this link to see what one innovative crafter came up with! You can also attach a small Velcro Dot to the top of the stop guide and the other part to the top of the board.
Are extra stop guides available for purchase?

Scoring Questions:
I notice that the ends of my score are slightly ripped or torn, what am I doing wrong?
Ease up slightly, on your pressure, at the beginning and end of the score. Practice on scrap pieces of card stock to achieve the correct pressure.
I have trouble keeping the paper flush against the centering ruler when scoring and then it ends up crooked any ideas?
Try turning the board around so that the centering ruler is at the bottom or closest to you. Now place your paper on the board and score. You’ll notice that now you’re pushing the paper towards the ruler and this may help solve your problem.
