We can all take a lesson from cats when it comes to Halloween. They aren’t afraid of spiders, see well in the dark, and favor simple costumes that consist of little more than a hat, a mask or a fancy collar. Where we differ: They enjoy fish-flavored treats while most of us much prefer chocolate!

Instructions:

Refer to photos throughout

  1. Use the Scor-it Board to score card stock, off center so that the card back extends from .25” to .75” beyond the card front.
  2. Stamping card front: Using the orange portion of the Spice ink pad, stamp two pumpkins. Using rust portion of Spice ink pad, stamp pumpkin stems. With orange and rust portion of Spice ink pad, stamp Trick or Treat several times, re-inking only once. With dark brown end of Spice pad, stamp a spider on card front.
  3. Stamping inside of card: Open card. Mask all but the right side with torn paper. Using the Smudgee, sponge rust ink from Spice pad onto card. Option: With rust and brown portions of Spice pad, stamp small leaves. Using brown or olive green portion of Spice pad, stamp Happy Halloween.
  4. Stamp witches’ hats on off-white card stock using Lamp Black ink. Use your finger to smear a small amount of Mint Ice (Ice Stickles) glitter glue down one side of the hat and across one side of the brim. When glitter glue is dry, cut out the hats.
  5. Using PaperTac Glue, attach a die cut cat to each card front. Add cat’s eye stickers to the cats, round pupil lure eye stickers to the spider. Glue a hat on each cat. It may be necessary to trim one of the cat’s ears to get the hat at the angle you like.
  6. Use a brown Micron .01 (fine point) marker to draw a line from the spider to the top of the card so the spider appears to be hanging from her web.
  7. Glue on dimensional embellishments (pre-made bow, mask, stars, pumpkin, bats, candy corn, etc.). Option: Thread a needle with metallic cord, poke holes on both sides of the neck of a cat, straight through the card front, and create a collar, tied at the front (see card with bats). Use GemTac Glue to attach nonporous embellishments. Use Kids Choice Glue for ribbons and other porous embellishments.

Tips:
The black cat die cuts are designed as back view, printed without a face. To change them so the cats will look forward, add eyes and draw on white whiskers or glue on a mask! The card with the gray cat, curled up, has no dimensional embellishments except for the eyes and the border at the right does not have stamped leaves to show that the cards can be effective even when they are quite simple.
