The Paper Garden – Summer Blooms and Lily Petals craft punch distributed by The Punch Bunch, Temple, TXFriends sustain us. They share our lives and you know they will be there during the ups and downs. I have lived in seven states and found friends to be my lifeline in any new environment we’ve relocated to. What better way to show a friend how much they mean to you than creating a journal of your times together. The Scor-it Board makes the accordion spine perfect for adhering envelopes that will hold photos, pressed flowers or any memorabilia that made that day perfect with your friend. In addition to making perfect accordion folds, use the Scor-it Board to emboss and create “channels” to weave ribbon and accentuate your stamping. I have decorated my cover with Lilies to signify “friendship and trust,” but you can add anything to the cover that is special to you and your friend.

The materials list for the Good Fortune Accordion Book gives the specifics about whose stickers, coins, rubber stamps, papers, and fibers I used, but the instructions are generic - written so that you can customize the book to the theme and supplies you choose and make a book in any size with any number of pages!

Instructions:

  1. Trim cardstock to 6” X 7”. Place wrong side up on the Scor-it Board and begin with a “valley” fold 1” from the right side. Flip paper to the right side and create a “mountain” fold at a ?” interval. Continue with ?” intervals, flipping paper to create valley and mountain folds until you have 10 folds. You should end with 1” on the left side.
  2. Cut two pieces of mat board 5 ?” X 7” and one 2 ?” square piece (if you want a decorative center piece.)
  3. Trim hand made paper for front and back to 7” X 9”. For the inside cover you will trim paper to 5” X 6 ?”.
  4. Use glue stick on the back piece of mat board and center on the 7” X 9” hand made paper back. Use a roller to firmly press and work out any bubbles. Apply glue to sides and fold in, pressing firmly. Apply glue to top, but first fold in corners (as if you were wrapping a package) and press. Apply more glue and fold down – use roller as you did before. Repeat with the bottom to cover the back.
  5. To add ribbon channels, place hand made paper front on Scor-it Board and with the right side up, emboss lines the distance apart the width of the ribbon. Repeat embossed lines horizontally.
  6. Use a craft knife and ruler to make “slits” where the embossed lines cross. Weave ribbon.
  7. Use glue stick on the front piece of mat board and center the “embellished” paper. Glue and wrap as you did in Step #4.
  8. Glue 1” tabs from the accordion spine to the inside of the front and back covered pieces. Use a boning tool to press and adhere well.
  9. Cover inside front and backs with the 5” X 6 1/2 “ pieces of hand made paper.
  10. The book holds five (5) A-6 envelopes. I used vellum envelopes, but you can use white or even colored envelopes, if desired. Also, if you want more than five, adjust accordion spine, adding 1” to the width of the cardstock for every envelope you add.
  11. Use your favorite stamps and techniques to “collage” envelopes. I also embossed lines using the Scor-it on the envelopes to accentuate them. Additionally, I created a fan from a 2 ?” X 4 ?” scrap of hand made paper and used the Scor-it to accordion fold every ?”. Wrap one end with 22-gauge wire and add tassel. I also added a small hand made vellum envelope (in red), using a template and the Scor-it.
  12. Glue or tape the envelopes to the “folds”. Make sure the opening of the envelopes is at the top for easy access to fill with photos and memorabilia.
  13. To finish the front cover, cover a 2 ?” square of mat board with a contrasting hand made paper. Run an additional piece of ribbon, to tie book closed, across the center before placing the square. Add Pop Dots to underside and mount between the embossed ribbon channels on the diagonal.
  14. The “Lilies” were created using Bazzill cardstock and the Lily Petal’s craft punch. Directions for Lily (and eleven other flowers) are from The Paper Garden-Summer Blooms.
