Project - Invitations

This project we featured artist Judi Kauffman of Chevy Chase, MD. The Scor-itTM board helped in the creation of her Wedding Invitations, RSVP, Place Cards and Envelopes.

Professionally embossed invitations are very expensive, but it’s easy to create the look of custom embossing on the Scor-it™ Board. Lay an invitation face up on the board and use the scoring tool to create raised (embossed) lines at the top and bottom, sides, or on all four sides, or across the top and down one side. Accent the embossed lines with low relief embellishments like leaves, flowers and trim. Use the same technique to create embossed lines or borders on reply cards, envelopes and place cards.

Instructions:

  1. Practice on pieces of card stock before embossing the actual printed pieces. Write down the measurements and placement of the embossed lines, on the practice sample you select, so you won’t forget where the lines need to go. Also, the placement of your embossed lines may vary from the samples shown depending upon the size of your printed piece. Invitations can be square or long narrow rectangles as well as traditional formal dimensions.
  2. Start with a flat invitation, place card, reply card or envelope professionally printed or printed on your laser printer. Place the piece face up on the board and use the tool the same way you would to make a score.
  3. Glue on the embellishments.

Tips:
Flat and almost flat embellishments like trims, velvet or silk leaves do not require a padded envelope or additional postage. Higher relief embellishments like fragile paper or silk flowers require a padded envelope or shallow box and additional postage. Keep this in mind when choosing what, if anything, to add to your embossed invitations. Embossed lines look beautiful with or without further embellishment.

Choose the right glue:
Select the right glue for the embellishments. Use quick grab, thick (tube) craft glue for paper flowers or leaves and other porous embellishments (Beacon KidsChoice). Fabric glue for ribbons and trims (Beacon FabriTac) gem glue for rhinestones, Buttons or other non-porous items (Beacon GemTac). www.beaconadhesives.com
