Welcome to Scor-it News, a monthly eNewsletter from the makers of Scor-it Boards and the Scor-it Mini.

In the Spotlight:
2 Sketches 4 You and the
1st Annual Ultimate Card Showdown
Laura Davis and Kazan Clark have been friends for more than 10 years.  They were once neighbors, and have remained friends over the years working together as Para-educators before both settling down as stay at home moms.  Laura has a 14 year old daughter and Kazan has two toddlers.  While at home their crafting careers flourished as both saw their work regularly published in magazines and they started to create on various Craft Design Teams.

About a year ago the friends decided to start their own challenge blog.  After much brainstorming and shifting of ideas 2 Sketches 4 You was born.  This card challenge blog brings you the creative talent and ideas from both Laura and Kazan, who have very different styles and approaches.  Each week either Kazan or Laura posts a card sketch on the blog, together with their uber talented design teams interpretation thereof. Cardmakers from all over the world partipate in the weekly challenges by making cards and have them uploaded onto the 2 Sketches 4 You gallery.  Every week one lucky person wins a fabulous sponsor prize and gets their card featured on the blog. It is fun, fast and fabulous with something new and exciting happennig each week.

The World of Card Making unites over Denver via the Internet.
2 Sketches 4 You hosts a month-long celebration to inspire, challenge and award cardmakers.

Tim Hammonds from Scor-it and Kazan Clark and Laura Davis from 2 Sketches 4 You invite all paper crafters to “attend” the 2 Sketches 4 You 1st Annual Ultimate Card Showdown—the most extravagant card challenge event to hit the blogesphere since the dawn of the Internet!

Beginning June 1st and lasting the entire month, participants will use the blog’s weekly inspiration sketch to create cards to submit for that week’s challenge. Each week, one person will win Card of the Week and that week’s sponsored prize. The first week 30 finalists will advance to the next round, then 20 will advance the week after that, then 10 and then 5. Each finalist will receive prizes from select sponsors. A panel of judges will choose winners, and prizes will be awarded to finalists who advance each week.

At the end of week four, 2 Sketches 4 You will crown one artist The Ultimate Card Showdown winner! The grand prize includes over $500 in products from contributing sponsors.

Additional prizes will be awarded through weekly random drawings.

Participants may join in any of the weekly challenges. But to be eligible for the grand prize, artists must begin on June 1st at http://2sketches4you.blogspot.com.

Sponsors of The Ultimate Card Showdown include: Clearsnap, Inky Antics, Sakura of America, Scor-it, Starving Artistamps, Sulyn Industries, Teresa Collins and Zutter Innovative Products.

In addition to being exhibited on the blogsite, winning contest entries may be published in print and/or on-line publications as deemed appropriate by Scor-it and 2 Sketches 4 You. Winners will be notified prior to any additional usage and designer credit will be given, but winners will not be compensated for further usage beyond the prizes already awarded

2 Sketches 4 You boasts 2 great assets—Kazan Clark, born and raised in South Africa and Laura Davis raised in the Mile High City, Denver, Colorado. Kazan brings her intensity and good humor, while Laura balances with her wholesome American good nature and creativity.

Kazan says, “our blog has followers around the world and we welcome international participation in The Ultimate Card Showdown.”

Participants should check out the blog, http://2sketches4you.blogspot.com early and often to get more details about the contest. The challenge awaits! The prizes are ready!

Did You Know?
You can score transparencies, acetate and overlays... but you'll need to practice to get the feel for how much hand pressure you need to use - it's a bit more than with paper and lightweight cardstock. Plus, it's a good idea to go over the score line a few times before folding, to get sharp, crisp creases and folds. It’s also better to score on the non-printed side of the transparency. TIP – after you have scored your transparency, fold it with the ridge on the inside and grab the two loose ends and line them up. Holding the folded piece in one hand, gently pinch the fold closed with your other hand. Next slide the loose ends up against the centering ruler of your Scor-it and finish creasing the fold using the side of your Scor-it scoring tool.

Check out this article, from Scrapbooking.com, by Di Hickman about creating cards from transparencies.

Great Finds!
Two new products from your friends at Scor-it!
The A-2 Envelope-it is an aluminum template that lets you cut out your own A-2 envelopes from any sheet of paper. The A-2 envelope is made to hold an A-2 card that measures 5 1/12” x 8 1/2” flat and 4 1/4” x 5 1/12” folded. The cutout circle allows you to position the template, on any designed paper, showing you what aspect of the design will be centered on the front of your envelope. Because it’s made from aluminum, you you cut around the template with a craft knife or you can trace around it and then cut out the envelope with a pair of scissors.

The Sliding Ruler slips onto the 12” large Scor-it Board and allows you to create perfect dry embossed diamonds, rectangles, grids and starbursts. It creates consistent starting and stopping points for any design. Inch and metric measurements are precisely scribed onto one ruler so it fits both large inch and metric Scor-it Boards.

I really used the sliding ruler on the "under the weather " card. It is great for getting the corner angles exactly the same. This is not easy without the sliding ruler.I also like the sliding ruler to make sure that my straight scores are accurate.I think the sliding ruler is great for diagonal scores and this is what I use it for mainly.
